DraftKings NBA Post Slate Value Report 12-07-2019
What's up dudes? It's your excellent friend "The Brand" here. In this article I will be taking a look at the ten game NBA slate on DraftKings from 12-06-2019. In these pieces, I find that it is an integral part of research to understand what happened every slate for a whole perspective. From there we can determine and help store facts in our minds to hopefully use to our advantage in the near future. There are ten games to cover here in this one so let's dive right into it.
Wizards @ Heat
This game ended up having some pieces that were valuable on the slate. Notably though the game did not shoot over the total, it did however stay close which I anticipated, so hooray for that. If you watched our YouTube video yesterday I mentioned that in this situation I was comfortable playing both stars from Miami in Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo and they ended up killing it with a combined 120 DraftKings points. Bam and Butler were available for a combo price of 15.6 K. I was also on Kendrick Nunn on the news that Winslow would be out for this game as well as Dion Waiters. Nunn did okay with 25.75 DraftKings points but he was outscored by Tyler Herro who ended up with 38.25 DK pts.
On the other end of this one The Wizards had some nice spots as well. Ish Smith was still priced down from the salaries being set before the news of the minutes/usage increase, which has been covered here. Smith crushed near 10x value for 32 DK pts. Bradley Beal had another okay night with 44. I talked up Hachimura and he did hit near 5x, nonetheless Moritz Wagner ended up being the stronger play in this situation. Davis Bertans also had another notable performance hitting 41 points for his modest 5.7 pricetag. It will be interesting to see how these guys will be priced moving forward.
Clippers @ Bucks
Clippers struggled in this one and ended up getting rocked by The Bucks. Giannis notably underperformed with 47 DraftKings points, which of course its sick that a line like that is not considered "good" but that;s the trade off for Giannis 12k pricetag. I played him because I felt The Clippers would keep it close and he could hit his ceiling. That of course, did not happen. Middleton, DiVencio and Wesley Matthews all hit right around 6x for The Bucks. Other than that production was very spread out. The only thing that needs to be said about how The Clippers struggled in this one is, the only player from the team that met value was Ivaca Zubac. Who clocked in 33 DraftKings points for his measly 3.5k salary. Which is a damn near 10x performance.
Lakers @ Blazers
This was a tough one for The Blazers as they lost starting wing man Rodney Hood to an Achilles injury, when something like that happens it kind of takes the sails out of a team. The Lakers walked to this win, in a somewhat rare occurrence both Anthony Davis and Lebron James hit 6x or better value. The Lakers also found smaller scale 6x performances from the likes of Javale McGee and Kyle Kuzma. Rajon Rondo went down for The Lakers later in the game. That should give us a small uptick for Quinn Cook going forward. For The Blazers, Lillard and Whiteside met value while Cj McCollum and Carmelo did not. Anfernee Simons off the bench provided a nice 7x performance good for 20.5 DK points. Going forward for The Blazers, without Hood they will end up starting Kent Bazemore, In this case this may actually be a downgrade for Baze, as he will enter the starting five and effective be the number 5 mouth to feed in that starting offense, so that's not encouraging. Behind Baze we will see a tad bit more Hezonja and Nassir Little, who would cancel out each others upside for the most part.
Nets @ Hornets
Nets continue to get trounced by guards. Terry Rozier and Devonte Graham both met value in Graham's case he crushed a near 6x performance. Cody Zellar also turned in a nice 32.5 point performance on his salary of just 4.1k, Zellar did this in only 23 minutes of play. Marvin Williams left this game with an injury so it will be interesting how Charlotte divides up his minutes going forward. On the other end we had some pretty respectable performances from most of these Nets here. Deandre Jordan though absolutely feasted against this Charlotte front, which I for one totally forgot about (sighs) DJ killed his 5.1k pricetag to smash his way to an over 8x game of 41.75 DraftKings points. Also note Joe Harris was able to hit six three pointers and make 6x value in this game. This is usually an outlier of an outlier.
Nuggets @ Celtics
This game just had defense written all over it and I didn't go near it and now I can see why. Denver goes from a blowout of The Knicks to getting worked by The Celtics. Last night Almost every Nugget player hit value except for Jokic and Murray and tonight the ONLY player for Denver to hit value was Nikola Jokic. Jokic turned in a 7x performance while the rest of team struggled to do much on anyone's own. Pretty much the same story on the other end Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum both went for 5x or more which was of little excitement. The rest of the team, failed to achieve much. At least for Boston, they got the win.
Timberwolves @ Thunder
I'll be damned if I didn't think this total was so off. Thing is I had fallen for a pace up spot for The Thunder last couple of times out, so of course when I don't go for it here, I miss THE BIGGEST TOTAL COMPETITIVE GAME ON THE SLATE. Five Thunder players went for 5x or better, they were Steven Adams (51.2), Chris Paul (50), Danilo Gallinari (40), SGA (39.25). On the other side The Wolves were without Andrew Wiggins, so there were a lot of minutes and usage to be redistributed. KAT Towns was a smash for 6x. While Jeff Teague saw an insane bump and hit a massive 10x ceiling game here. Going forward we shall see where Teague stays priced relative to the situation with Wiggins.
Warriors @ Bulls
Another dud game here, not much to talk about. Glenn Robinson 3 was a nice little play hitting a nice 8x performance and leading the team in DraftKings points. D'Angelo Russell played 29 minutes and was a big disappointment . On the other end The Bulls were led by Levine who totaled 38 DK points, which at his price was a lackluster 5x. Just another example to not target low total games between bad teams here. Time to move on.
Magic @ Cavs
This game was the same type of deal, DJ Augustin led The Magic here with 29 DraftKings points which at his price of 4.8 K is very nice but just not something that generally gives you huge upside. Also note Terrance Ross also hit a 6x performance for The Magic. The Cavs had some decent plays including Cedi Osman who was on most of the GPP winning lineups. He smashed for a near 10x performance here. Tristan Thompson and Colin Sexton ended up being good little plays as well, nothing you wanna tell your friends about but some ok performances from a DK points perspective nonetheless.
Pacers @ Pistons
Domantas Sabonis led The Pacers with 46.25 DraftKings points good for over 6x, while the next guy up on the team Malcolm Brogdon had 36 and just barely went above a 5x value for his price, once again a low total here and we are starting to see a trend for the most part of not wanting more than one guy from one of these teams, on a slate this size. While some teams (see Golden State above) just may not be worth rostering in general until otherwise noted. For Detroit, Drummond and Griffin both smashed their price tags and led the team in DK points. If Blake Griffin was priced where he is usually at, his game wouldn't have been nearly as valuble, but here he crushed his strange 6.7k pricetag on DraftKings. Derrick Rose and Bruce Brown also turned in 6x performances so there is that. Semi rare I think for a team like Detroit to score 108 points and have all those pieces actually hit value.
Kings @ Spurs
Tight one here that went to OVERTIME but still had just a 209 point total, which should tell us the whole story right there. Both teams prefer the slow ball when given the chance and that'e exactly what happened here. Richaun Holmes and Harrison Barnes continue to step up for The Kings in De'Aaron Fox's absence. Buddy Hield has been somewhat lackluster to say the least. Holmes and Barnes crush beyond 6x value in this one. Trevor Ariza might also be a thing again as he played 29 minutes and hit a nice almost 8x value for his modest price tag of 3.3k. As for The Spurs, Lamarcus Aldridge returned and played 35 minutes while hitting a nice 6x performance. Demar DeRozan just barely edged him out with three more points. Dejounte Murray and Patty Mills both see over 30 minutes and end up being the only other two Spurs players that make value. So when someone figures out Pops rotations, go ahead and give me a call.
