Its no secret in fantasy football land, that quarterbacks that run the football and or run a high paced offense are the titular diamonds in every fantasy players eyes. Whether its daily fantasy or season long these four men are on the fantasy radar across the globe because of the way they play their game. In this column I will take a ridiculously speculative look at these four players Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Kyler Murray in what is surely a skewed and small sample size, but through that we can learn a lot about what is to come over the next three months. Is the NFL doomed by these Four Horsemen Of The NFL Apocalypse? Lets find out!
Passing
Patrick Mahomes completion percentage is 8 points higher than Lamar Jackson who is second on the list. Mahomes has done this while throwing the second most passes of the four behind Kyler Murray. Clearly from a pure passing standpoint Mahomes is the top dog with his completion percent and rating and also topping the four in touchdowns with 10 scored. Now the next guy on the touchdown list is Lamar Jackson with 7, which is more than Kyler Murray and Josh Allen have combined. Mahomes and Jackson have also both thrown 83 yard passes while Allen and Murray's longest passes have been of the 50 yard variety. Also Jackson and Mahomes have yet to throw an interception while Murray and Allen have 6 combined.
Protection
Kyler Murray is playing with a trash offensive line and it shows here. Allen, Mahomes and Jackson combined have been sacked less times (14) than Murray who has been sacked 16 times through three games this season. Mahomes has been sacked the least, only three times through three games while Allen and Jackson have been backed 5 and 6 times respectively.
Rushing
This is where Lamar Jackson seperates himself from Mahomes, now granted Mahomes has been dealing with an ankle injury since week one. Mahomes is dead last with only 10 rushing yards on the season on only 6 attempts, so Andy Reid is serious about his guy staying in the pocket. Anyway, back to Lamar Jackson he leads the way here with 172 rushing yards which is just short of edging out Kyler Murray and Josh Allen combined. Allen leads the way with two rushing TDs while Jackson has one and Murray and Mahomes have not crossed the plane as of yet.
Conclusion
Is the volume and accuracy of Mahomes worth more in a fantasy sense than the "rushing upside" of Lamar Jackson? That is the biggest question to take out here, the points say they almost have evened out while Mahomes barely notches Lamar Jackson in terms of fantasy points scored. Josh Allen fails to round out the top ten and comes in at 11the while Kyler Murray is 14th. Meanwhile Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson are in the top 5 in fantasy points, quietly while people talk about Allen and Kyler their time is more or less the future and maybe Wilson and Prescott are not ready to hand over the keys just yet.
